I got to be there last night, waiting down the hallway near the nursery, shifting from one foot to the other in anxiety. And then I could hear him, mad as can be, squalling and wailing so clearly even through a closed door and down a corridor.
When I slipped into the room and saw Iain holding him, his face glowing in happiness, I thought they were still just pretending. Mckay wasn't their baby. It was just playing house, not real, like their wedding didn't seem real. Then Crystal took the tiny swaddled bundle into her arms and hushed him, tired hair sticking to her forehead but love in her eyes, and it all clicked into place.
We are growing up. We are getting married, starting families. Some of us went Home along the way, and we miss them terribly, wish they were here with us, to grow and stretch and simply be... but those of us here are pushing on, carrying one another, lifting one another, finding one another, making one another happy.
